SETUP & OPERATION GUIDE

Watch this first https://youtu.be/rQEzlYCs3a8

The SwitchGrade was designed to take the compromises out of your riding experience so you could change seat tube angles and saddle positions without stopping and using tools. Want goat-like trail bike climbing efficiency on your burly enduro steed? Flick the lever, SwitchGrade's got your back. What about turning that same enduro into a steezy mini-DH park bike with more room to move? Again, just grab the lever and send it!

We made operating a SwitchGrade easy so you can focus on the goods.

How To Operate A SwitchGrade

Watch the YouTube Video above to get an idea of how it works.

Before operating the SwitchGrade, ensure you are either off your bicycle or not fully seated with your entire weight on the saddle. WARNING: Do not attempt to operate the SwitchGrade when traveling at speed or during excessively technical terrain, whether ascending or descending (ie lots of rocks, roots, steep grades etc), or you risk serious damage to your property or serious injury or death.

STEP 1 - Place palm of your hand on the nose of saddle and locate SwitchGrade Lever.
STEP 2 - Pull and hold the Lever up and choose one of the following:

- To lock into Climb position, slide SwitchGrade forward into front index slot
- To lock into Descend position, slide SwitchGrade rearward into rear index slot
- To lock into Flat (neutral) position, slide SwitchGrade into middle index slot

STEP 3 - Release Lever until lock engages. You will feel and hear a click.

Setup Tips For The Way You Ride

SwitchGrades were purpose-built to offer a 22 degree range of motion, allowing user-customized options for the way you ride, where you ride, level of fitness, expertise, and general preferences. Customization is accomplished through independent settings for micro-adjustment and "macro" adjustments.

SwitchGrades offer 3 locked "macro" positions beginning with the mid-point or Middle Index position. This 'base' setting controls the 2 remaining positions:

The front or "Climb" position which is fixed at -10 degrees from mid-point

The rear or "Descend" position fixed at 12 degrees from mid-point

Let's run through some examples

Example 1: "Tyler" - loves huge days and backcountry epics

Tyler is a lung-busting climbing goat who loves long epic trails, blue and black diamond descents, and has 12 years of riding experience. He regularly rides trails beginning with long moderate-sloped FSR climbs with some short uber-steep pitches in between. Because of this Tyler setup his SwitchGrade with two climb settings: one for the long moderate slopes and another 'bail-out' setting for super steep parts.
SwitchGrade tune:

Tyler set his middle (aka 'base') position to -5 degrees using his seatpost's native 2-bolt micro-adjustments system giving him:

a -5 degree setting which he uses for moderate slopes, flatter sections of trail, and undulating trail sections

a -15 degree 'bail-out' setting reserved for super steep pitches

a +7 degree nose-up position for descending

Example 2: "Dex" - trail builder/rider, occasional enduro racer

Say hello to Dex. He's a steezy balls to the wall rider who doesn't mind 'suffering' the climbs but definitely is in it to make the most of the downhills. His favourite line choices are the ones your dentist wouldn't recommend. Dex's bike of choice is a stout enduro bike with 165mm travel in the rear setup for big hits and speed. He prefers a balanced SwitchGrade tune to make climbs bearable and get the most out of downhill, airs, and berm smashing.

SwitchGrade tune:

Dex chose to keep his middle base position at 0 degrees, dictated by the 2 bolt system on his dropper post. This gives him:

negative -10 degree setting for climbing steep and moderately long climbs

positive 12 degree saddle tilt to cancel the downhill slopes and give him tons of room to move over and around the saddle with style

0 degree neutral position for flat, undulating, and moderate climbs

How to Setup Your SwitchGrade

STEP 1 - Position your SwitchGrade in the middle index lock position.
STEP 2 - Use an inclinometer / level app such as Saddle Adjust (Apple and Android) or Angle Pro and place it flat on saddle. Position it where you would normally sit.
STEP 3 - Alternate between the front and rear fastening bolts on your seatpost until you find your desired "default" or "Base" setting. This will control the two other index lock positions.

Download this a table with some suggested settings. Choose what you feel matches your style of riding or trail characteristics. And remember, these are just suggestions - experiment away and let us know how you run your SwitchGrade!

To use the chart, simply focus on the "Default Base Setting" column (the Independent setting) and the two dependent index settings will automatically be set.

A few considerations / suggestions:

The rear lock position (aka Descend) tilts the saddle up to optimize off-saddle maneuvers, while the front lock position (aka Climb) tilts the saddle down to optimize on-saddle maneuvers.

Climbing with a SwitchGrade introduces new dynamics for which your body will naturally adapt to (eg. no more need to scoot forward onto saddle nose means open hip and torso angles). Pay attention to the details and try experimenting with saddle fore/aft adjustment, dropper insertions, and saddle elevation.

SwitchGrade 2.0 EVO

$225.00 CAD
FAQs

Does it affect stack height?

Yes, stack height will increase but the actual measurement depends on your dropper post and its reported values. We would advise that you plan for an average 10mm increase in saddle height. Keep in mind, however, that tilting the saddle backwards into Descend mode will provide an additional 30mm of clearance vs. your current setup so, in practice, you will gain more room to maneuver around the saddle.

How much does it weigh?

The SwitchGrade weighs 158 grams excluding installation hardware. Consider, however, that because it replaces your dropper post's stock clamps which typically average 60-70 grams, the net add to your bike is roughly only 100g.

If I change my dropper post will I need to buy another SwitchGrade?

The most likely answer is no. SwitchGrade 2.0 EVO features a modular compatibility system meaning all that's needed is to purchase a new set of shims and/or adapters that match your new dropper or seatpost.

Does it creak or produce any play?

No, you will not find any creaking or play. The SwitchGrade was designed with as few moving parts as possible and engineered to tight tolerances. Listen to what Dr. J MTB has to say about build quality and durability on his SwitchGrade review.

Descend with Confidence

Tilt the rear down for an extra 30mm of saddle clearance, simultaneously positioning the nose for precise steering and control on your way to the podium (or buddy bragging rights).

An ebike must have. This is a game changer. I’m an ebiker who is mainly self shuttling myself back up for another run back down. On sustained climbs my back is constantly hunched over and in pain (I’m 49). With the Aenomaly installed I can climb the steepest of trails with my back in a neutral position and I finish my rides feeling fresh. This is almost an essential item for Ebikes.

A Magic Carpet for My Ass! This is undoubtedly one of the best bike gear so far since the introduction of the dropper post. The pieces are beautifully machined and the installation is straightforward. I've installed mine (V3) on the new FOX Transfer and it's perfect. It works smoothly with a rock solid action. Best Buy! Impressed!!! I got my SwitchGrade 2 weeks ago. It's well built, installation was a breeze. This is something that I didn't even know I needed until I tried it, way more comfortable on the climbs with the seat tilted forward!!! I highly recommend this!!!

Hear what the Pros have to say...

Health professionals, coaches, industry luminaries, and pro athletes share their thoughts on the SwitchGrade and its benefits.

When riding up a steep slope, a traditionally neutral saddle tilt will cause the pelvis to tilt posteriorly. This has a number of implications, both above and below the level of the hip. In addition to over-lengthening and stressing muscles of the lumbar spine, an aggressive posterior pelvic tilt alters the position of the hip joint relative to other structures in the body. This changes the leverage capabilities of the hip and surrounding muscles, particularly in regards to hip extension. Excessive posterior pelvic tilt also has a negative impact upon quadriceps muscle recruitment, and has the potential to affect the degree of terminal knee extension during pedal stroke. What this boils down to is both an uncomfortable and inefficient riding position. A negative saddle tilt, such as that provided by the SwitchGrade, helps mitigate this change in pelvic tilt during steep, seated climbing. concerns of your customers.

Dr. Adam Phaneuf, DC
Apex Chiropractic and Rehab

After spending a few long days in the saddle with SwitchGrade installed, I can definitely say that the benefits are noticeable. From a biomechanics perspective, the forward tilted position definitely creates a more anteriorly rotated pelvis in the seated position. That's anatomy speak for better lower back posture, and better power transfer during seated, steep climbs. From a shredding perspective, the rearward tilt gives you a noticeably increased standover height over your dropped saddle for full send, downhill procedures. I can't wait to get more time on the bike with Switchgrade aboard.

Dr. Josh Harris, DPT (Dr J MTB)
Somercycle Bike Shop

As a coach who is always looking for ways to help riders feel more comfortable on the bike, I saw immediately how this could keep pressure off their sensitive under-bits for those long steep climbs. After riding on the Switchgrade I was surprised by how much I missed it when riding on my bikes without one. It made my normal saddle position I've been riding for 20yrs feel like it was pointing straight up when climbing. I plan to introduce a lot of new people to the Switchgrade and to make sure all my bikes have one on it.
